Replace Water Turn Off Valve

Replace water turn off valve. Locate the valve that is closer to the supply than the one you want to shut off. This might be the hot water heater the house water shut off in the house or the main shut off at the meter.

As the water begins filling the toilet s tank check for leaks around the new valve. Close the new valve. Before you replace your valve you ll need to locate your main valve and shut off the water supply. Turn the water heater gas valve back to on or flip on the circuit breakers to the electric water heater.

If this happens to you you can simply replace the valve with a new valve that matches the old one. Then open the water main shutoff valve and let the water run until all the air is out of the pipes. These inexpensive little valves rarely get used and when they do sometimes they leak. Gas valves typically have some other shut off in the proximity of the valve before you get to the main.
